Don’t Ignore the Grind

Posted June 28, 2026 1:14 PM

Your wheel hub assembly is probably not one of those things on your vehicle you think about very often.  In fact, you may not even have even heard of it.  But it’s one of the most important components that keeps your vehicle stable, smooth and safe on the road.

The hub assembly houses the wheel bearings and connects the wheel to the suspension, allowing it to rotate freely while supporting the vehicle’s weight. But when this part begins to fail, the effects can be felt in many ways.

Safety is one of the biggest reasons wheel hub assembly replacement is so important. A worn or damaged hub can cause excessive wheel play, uneven tire wear and unpredictable handling. In the most extreme cases, it can even lead to a wheel separating from your vehicle. Early signs of trouble include grinding noises, vibration or the ABS warning light coming on.  Don’t ignore them.  Bring your vehicle in so one of our technicians can pinpoint the problem.

If you have a failing hub assembly, it can also affect your braking system. Many modern hubs include built‑in anti-lock braking sensors that monitor wheel speed. When the hub wears out, these sensors can malfunction, reducing braking efficiency and compromising traction control systems. When that hub is replaced, it can restore proper sensor function and ensures your vehicle can stop safely and consistently.

In addition to safety, a new wheel hub assembly will improve your overall driving comfort. You’ll notice the humming, rumbling or wobbling that worn bearings create will be gone, giving you a smoother, quieter ride. It also protects surrounding components (tires, rotors and suspension parts) from premature wear.

Replacing a worn wheel hub assembly is an essential investment in safety, performance and long‑term vehicle reliability.

For 4x4s (Maintenance of 4x4 Vehicles)

Posted June 21, 2026 12:56 PM

Some people love 4x4 vehicles, the true 4-wheel drive works of engineering like Jeeps and 4x4 pickups that allow you to seemingly go anywhere on the planet. You can climb up a 40-degree rock trail with some planning and skill (always careful to protect the environment, of course), or you can get through the deepest snow.

But with that added capability comes additional complexity, drive-train components and other systems that less capable vehicles don't have.  And that is why when it comes to 4x4s, you have to maintain them a little differently from those vehicles that spend their lives on pavement.  Here are some of the key things to keep an eye on:

  • Transfer case—This transfers power from the engine to the wheels.  A transfer case has fluid in it that needs to be changed at intervals recommended by the manufacturer.  Your service advisor will let you know how often that is and will keep track of your service dates.  You will need to make sure the transfer case seal is working properly.  Otherwise, transmission fluid could get in and cause damage that is costly to fix.  Some transfer cases have an electric motor that shifts it through gears, and its connections are often exposed to the elements, making them vulnerable to damage and corrosion.  Proper maintenance will keep those connections working like they should
  • Front and rear differentials—These also have to have the right amount of fluid and should be checked regularly.  Your service advisor can let you know when you need that fluid changed as the owner's manual recommends.  It's important the service is performed correctly with the proper lubricant so it will work the way it is designed to.
  • Brake lines—Those 4x4s practically beg to go into wet spots. They also are great machines to conquer snow: road salt, brine and all.  Moisture, salt and brake lines are a recipe for corrosion, so brake lines need to be inspected regularly.  There are anti-corrosion sprays or white lithium grease that can retard corrosion.  Remember, getting there is half the fun, but not being able to stop is no fun at all.

So enjoy your 4x4 and what it can do that other vehicles can't.  Just remember that even though it's tough on the outside, it needs special care to keep it going.  Oh, and remember to take care of the environment when you go off-roading, too.

Keep Your Cool in CHERRY HILL: Air Conditioning Services

Posted June 14, 2026 12:31 PM

Most CHERRY HILL drivers don't even think about their air conditioner.

Now here's a tip for CHERRY HILL vehicle owners: Run your air conditioner every so often during NJ winters. This circulates the lubricant to help keep the seals from drying out.

The air conditioner actually removes some of the moisture in the air. So if you have trouble with fogging on your vehicle windshield during NJ winters or during a rain storm, running the A/C on the defrost setting should help. Now on some CHERRY HILL cars you can't run the A/C at the same time as the defroster. Don't ask me why, but I suspect lawyers were involved.

Also, air and water can get into the A/C system. That can reduce the efficiency of the system and also lead to corrosion that causes damage. CHERRY HILL drivers should periodically purge the system and replace the refrigerant to remove the air and water.

NJ drivers would be wise to learn the early warning signs of A/C trouble: 1) The air's not as cold as it used to be. 2) It makes unusual noises when the A/C cycles on. Those are signs to get your vehicle into Joe D'Auria's Auto in CHERRY HILL before the damage gets worse.

By following the recommended service intervals in your vehicle owner's manual, you can help prevent mechanical failure of your air conditioning system. Your A/C system contains some components like the compressor, condenser, dryer, etc. Anything CHERRY HILL car owners can do to lengthen the life of their A/C is well worth it.

Catalytic Converter Replacement

Posted June 7, 2026 1:30 PM

Many of us have become aware of how important it is to keep our planet’s air clean, and your vehicle has a key component that helps do just that: the catalytic converter.  It’s in the exhaust system, and its job is to superheat unburned, harmful byproducts in the exhaust, so they don’t get spewed out into the atmosphere.

There’s another important purpose the catalytic converter has: it improves your vehicle’s efficiency.

Most of us don’t give the catalytic converter much thought until it breaks or someone steals yours, something that’s been happening much more frequently in recent years.  The reason people steal them is that catalytic converters use precious metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium to do their job. So, they contain valuable materials thieves can sell.

The most likely reason you will have to replace your catalytic converter is age.  The more distance your vehicle travels and the more hours your engine runs, it’s putting wear and tear on the converter.  T

You can tell if your catalytic converter is failing by looking out for these signs:

  • Smell of rotten eggs inside your cabin or outside near the exhaust
  • Check Engine light is on
  • Vehicle power isn’t what it used to be, or fuel economy has plunged
  • Vehicle backfires

If you need a new catalytic converter, it can be replaced with an original equipment part if it’s available, or an aftermarket converter can be welded into the exhaust pipe.  It’s not uncommon for oxygen sensors to need replacing as well.  The technician will also check for other problems in your powertrain that may have contributed to your converter failing.

Check to see if an emissions test is required where you live.  If it is, you will have to have a properly functioning catalytic converter to pass it.
